Life’s good…
Finally got my iPhone 4 and lurv it. ( let me know if anyone wants to hug it).
I did however have a problem. When swapping between the back and front camera the camera would freeze. The shutter would then remained closed.
The only way to get it back is to do a hard reboot.
I returned to apple and they replaced it. Problem was that they ran out of iPhone 4’s except a handful of swap outs which I was lucky to get but a number of people started to complain that I was buying one and almost caused a “situation”. Apple gal said she needed to remove it from the floor before a riot broke out.
Apple appears to have acknowledged that there could be an issue with the 3G phone running OS4.
The phone runs extremely slow resulting in many apps not running.
It does appear to be due to memory and the only work arounds that have alleviated the issue is to first turn off the spotlight search and doing a hard reboot every few days.
There is some chatter that a fix is on the way.
If you are wondering what you actually get on the 3G phone when you upgrade to iPhone 4.0 OS here be a list of what we have found so far.
Folders - Simply press on an app and drag it to another app and let go. A Folder will be created. You can add and remove apps as well as change the name of the folders.
Camera Zoom - Simply tap the screen when running the camera and you will get a slider at the bottom of the screen. Not real great zoom but better than nothing.
Photos now have places. Once you click on the photos, you will see Albums and Places icons. Click on places and you will get a map showing the location of you photos (those with lats and longs). Click on the market and it will show you which photos.
Search - You can now search the Web and Wikipedia from the iPhone spotlight search.
Email - Now you have a single thread option for all emails. Click on you mail app and choose “All Inboxes”.
iPod - New playlist functionality including easy edit and delete. Some nice UI changes for selecting music.
iBook App - Download from the App Store - Not sure yet if it will sync the page you are up to between iPad and iPhone.
Images and Video to come.
Enjoy.
Hour 1. Setup is a breeze, basically plug in to iTunes and Sync away. Most of the time is spent optimizing photos.
Hour 2. Setup mail, Twitter App, Realize that there is no need for a Facebook app, just use the standard website and save link to home page. Make a call on the iPad using Fring.
Hour 3. Looks at Apps. First you will be asked to install the iBooks Store. Install Angry Birds and Scrabble. Download a few free books in the bookstore.
Hour 4. Kids steal iPad :-(
Hour 5. Kids still using iPad.
Hour 6. Steal iPad back from Kids. Install Kindle App, Marvel App and search for Lucifers Hammer via iTunes audible books. Download a few comics. Very kewl.
Hour 7. Play scrabble with family, this iPad thing is already a hit.
Hour 8. Catch up on a few tweets, emails an FB updates. Review a few movies, the quality of the stream is outstanding.
Hour 9. Finally down to 20% battery, 9 HOURS insane!! Wifey and I turn on the slideshow and reminisce over photos we have not seen for a few years.
Hour 10. Angry Birds. Oh nooo so addictive, need to conquer ASAP to get my life back.
What a great device. Yes it’s a little like an overgrown iPod Touch but the screen size totally changes it’s dynamic.
Well done Steve. I give this 9 out of a possible 10 Turtlenecks.
